Living Beyond the Written Pages – As ministers, we’re the first examples of the life we’ve received in Christ to the people around us. It’s not enough for us to preach and teach from the Word; we are living epistles of the Gospel and our lives must radiate the glory of God’s Word in us, to those around us. The prophets wrote so much about the Messiah, and Jesus fulfilled every single prophecy – He lived beyond the written pages of the books.

The Old Testament folks always had to resort to the Prophets and seers to inquire of the Lord. It wasn’t a common revelation to the people to talk directly to God in prayer and expect to receive an answer from Him.

“And Moses and Aaron came in unto pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast:” (Exodus 10:3-4).

We are always having conversations most of the time with ourselves, which go round and round in our heads. Although we have a deep need to speak our truth, to listen and truly hear, in order to do so, we must first learn how to stop reacting and to respond from the depth of ourselves.

Having just been reading and re-reading how this disciple of Jesus described himself. I have read this so many times over the years and it has spoken to me so deeply and so profoundly and it is so relevant for everyone who wished to develop that spiritual dimension. John frequently speaks about himself as the disciple whom Jesus loved. Would we ever describe ourselves to others with such poignant words? It is good to know and realise that we can be loved and really loved by the risen and living Lord Jesus Christ. We no longer require to impress Him or seek to impress anyone else! There is nothing we can do that would make Jesus Christ love us more or appreciate us more highly. That is a releasing and liberating thought. My wish is that I could say more on this because it is an exciting concept and it is a basic spiritual truth.
