Through History and around the world, men have always prayed. Sometimes it was for helping the crops to grow, other times it was for casting evil away, attracting love, finding wealth or asking for forgiveness…

Not only is it important to read and know the bible to strengthen our relationship with God, but also it helps us to discern when people are making claims, preaching, prophesying, if it’s the truth or not.There are many verses that warn us about false messiahs, false prophets and false teachings, as well as the devil himself preying on people.

As Christians who walk daily with the Lord, we should all watch out for those attitudes that take over our hearts and minds most especially when we are least aware of them. And then, when they have begun to take root in us, they tend to crowd out the confidence and they begin instill fear, anger, envy and discontentment in us.

How is a Church birthed? How was a Church launched and founded in the New Testament? I have recently been reading and studying the letter to the Church at Philippi but I first turned to see how that vibrant Church started. God wanted a colony of heaven in Philippi, and God knew who could do this job for him and who could colonise Philippi for Him. At this time Paul was a man on the move. It is easier to direct a man on the move than direct a man who is not moving. It is easier to direct a car when it is on the move. It is the same with a man and this man was a committed man of God.

Paul goes through so much suffering in his life and he is not destroyed. Is there a lesson to be learned? Is there a secret? What is the secret if there is one? Fruitfulness and triumph and overcoming and victory seem to emerge from suffering and difficulty and struggle and humiliation! Try and separate fruitfulness from suffering and you cannot. We see this in the life and ministry of Joseph who rose to become Prime Minister in Egypt under Pharaoh. David had his times of battle and success. When we read of the Suffering Servant in the book of Isaiah, we know how that was all fulfilled glorious in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The famous observation of Tertullian who said that the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church has a depth of insight which is all too often lost on believers today.

Life can be difficult at times. As Christian’s we are not promised that life will be easy, but God has promised us He will never leave us.

You go to church every Sunday, you may even pray in between, but the rest of the time you live in the world. It’s a hard way to live, trying to please God and the world at the same time. At some point you have to make a choice.

Do you find yourself thinking about karma? Do you also find yourself considering what karma actually is and how you avoid the pitfalls of doing the wrong thing and jeopardising your immortal soul? There are many people who are confused concerning what it means to be truly spiritual. I have often heard a slogan which some use, and which many believe is something good to repeat. Have you ever said, “You can be so spiritual that you are no earthly good?” Believe me when I say that I do understand the import of what people are trying to convey when they say that, but really that slogan, no matter how good and deep it sounds, is actually wrong, unspiritual, untrue and impossible. You can never be so spiritual that you are no earthly good. On the other hand, you can be so earthy minded that you lack spiritual virtue, morals and manners.

Should we want to re-gift the grace that others (or God) issue(s) us from love? That would cheapen the deal. For their love we’d offer in return a guilt-laden, conditional love – that which can only ever be an insult, rightly construed.

Splitting the differences we divine the chasm separating the Old Covenant from the New. Jesus, the incarnate Son, comes to the world – to a place and a people that had never seen God – and he reveals grace and truth; that God is not simply “Law” but, at effect, grace and truth too.
