Visions and revelations from God are infrequent but exceedingly precious. Come with me into the wonderfully exciting book of Daniel and understand what can happen when a man of God is in fellowship and communication with the living God, the only God there is. Daniel has been fasting and praying for three weeks, and for three weeks the angel of the Lord has been trying to get through to him with the answer, but was prevented by demonic forces. Daniel is a man of God who meant business with God, and as he becomes more and more involved in spiritual warfare we observed how upset and disturbed he is. There are those who would choose to ignore prophecy on the grounds that it is too difficult, and that we really only need the words and sayings and teaching of Jesus. We need the whole Book, and we need to have a balanced attitude to the whole Book, not over emphasising certain areas, and not omitting certain vital themes.

This article is about God’s plan for our lives. In the article an example was taken from the life of Naomi from the book of Ruth. Naomi felt that God has cursed her because of her circumstances, but God had actually chosen her to be blessed. God has not forgotten us and we must constantly guard ourselves against the belief that when things are going wrong in our lives that God is in a marvelous plan to bless and restore our families.

Having been reading and studying in the Old Testament book of Daniel what relevance might this prophet and this prophetic word have for us in these present critical times as we face an economic and financial storm? Daniel is now in his 80’s, and he is down, and he is fasting and praying and seeking an answer from God. Do you ever get down? Does life ever seem to heavy and burdensome? Then this is a good moment to turn to read the prophetic words of Daniel.

When flying to Uganda and Kenya I have flown the Sudan and Darfur in particular, and many have been interceding regarding the plight of those poor people in Darfur for some years. An email comes in asking me and those who give themselves to prayer to pray for Sudan. Whatever does one pray? How can one’s practical spirituality and perseverance in prayer be applied to praying for that massive country? Sudan has been torn with war for many years, both religious and cultural. We have been entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation. This is a highly responsible duty but it will be essential that many disciples of Jesus Christ unite in prayer seeking peace and reconciliation and even the salvation of those who do not know Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as Saviour and Lord.

We installed a wood burning stove in our living room which we use to heat our home. It works wonderfully well and it continues to provide guidance as well as warmth. This week it demonstrated to me the difference between “inertia” and “stuck” and how to dissolve both.

The one that stood out the most for me was a woman with chronic back pain who found herself, during the past life regression, transported to World War II Poland where she, her family, and neighbors were crammed into cattle cars by the Nazis and then taken to a work camp.

However, there are two pitfalls that cause us to often fail at this idea, and do the opposite; take no action. Not the action of conscious non-action, but no action.

Daniel would go through his normal routine on most days, getting up and praying, being at work and praying, praying and going to bed. It appears at first sight to be of visions and revelations and dreams, and meeting angels and mingling with the royalty of Babylon. It looks like he experienced the supernatural twice a week, and yet, this book, remember only deals with a very few days in his very long life. Do not forget that Daniel would have many ordinary days, just as Jesus had many ordinary days too. This is the common experience of every deeply spiritual person. Peter and Paul know what was involved in routine as they travelled and dealt with various serious issues. Life is primarily a very ordinary business, even when we follow Jesus Christ.

Often in the way we felt we were no longer click to a community, we might feel better to walk alone. You can walk alone if it can make you happy. But do not tell bad things about our old communities, do not slander our old community. Because after all, we have spent some time together in the community, We have shared joys and sorrows. Do not blame a community if we do not get what we expected, blame our expectations because expectations will always create misery.

Most names have significant meaning, and it is important how we name people. In the Bible we see how God was so interested in how individuals were named and there were times when names were changed so that the significance of that person’s life and ministry would be fully recognised and understood. Abraham and Isaac and Jacob are vital illustrations and examples of the importance of names. When Mary was pregnant with the coming Saviour, Joseph was told that when He was born He was to be called Jesus, because He would save people from their sins. Jesus Christ still does this today. But, consider this faithful man Caleb. He knew how to hang on. There are lessons here for each of us.
