For the past several months I have been posting articles on a unique site called Qondio. While doing so, there have been some interesting conversations amongst some of the authors there and myself. It is quite amazing how people can take completely opposite opinions to the same information. However, regardless as to the “opinions” of what people think, it’s all about the personal experience that matters.

Many times my wife and I find ourselves talking about certain circumstances, or events, that took place in our lives. It is fascinating when you look at how coincidental certain situations were and how one little thing led to another, which led to another, and so on. As we looked back over the past 12 years of our lives, since being married, we were able to connect the dots with amazement.

I was probably in 8th or 9th grade when Sr. Mary Charles was talking about the importance of taking a stand. She was saying we couldn’t be fence sitters. We needed to choose. I am talking about every kind of relationship known to mankind. Our intricate complex relationships define us! They mold, shift, alter, arrange, blend, extricate, cajole, and elicit the best and worst we are.

Let none of us deny that ‘unfathomable grief is the driving force behind every artist.’ The anguish and sorrow we experience is due to the unrelenting need to express the unsung songs, the unwritten poems, undirected plays, the unstrung instruments waiting to yield glorious tones of unheard splendor.

The heart breaking problem lies in the realization, that in and of ourselves, we are pretty insignificant in the scheme of personal matters. We want to believe that we are SO important when, in fact, we are not, have never been and will never be.

We all have it… baggage. We all have some broken dream, disappointing loss, rejection via unrequited love or abandonment by a loved one to contend with in our lifetime. Our lives may hold some personal triumphs but the thing that holds us back the most are the failures.
