There was a time not so long ago that I believed everything my stepfather had told me about myself. He said I was worthless, wouldn’t amount to much and that I would never be a real man which I’m assuming was according to his standards.

Do I strive to imitate Jesus? I say His prayer, occasionally. I write about Him; I attempt to be aware of His presence; I try to ask myself, “What would Jesus do?” when I confront a difficult decision. I do a lot of stuff that may outwardly appear as attempts to follow His teachings. But do I truly seek to imitate Him?

A prayer of supplication is a prayer in which we make our petitions, requests, and concerns known to God. We approach God in our prayers with humility and sincerity. This is our opportunity to approach a gracious God with confidence that our prayers will be answered according to His Word and His will.

There are times in our lives when our faith is tested to the extremes and we are in desperate need for help or support to bring us back on a righteous path. In most circumstances we can go to church and we can call upon family or friends to support us in our time of need. However there are those times when we are all alone and have to get out of this place by ourselves.

For Christians, the nature and identity of the true enemy is an essential discussion. Christians waste enormous amounts of time and energy, and alienate countless millions of people, by inventing false enemies and battling them.

And this is where a true Christian spirituality gains for us the right amount of traction for living life appropriately. We see the purpose in enduring patiently, well beyond our own default grumpiness and lack of spiritual resilience. We see the purpose in holding to God – grimly at times – in our weaknesses.
