Free Bird

892. That’s the number of people that have been killed on Tennessee roads so far this year. There are electronic billboards on the interstates around Nashville posting the up to date number in an attempt to get people to drive cautiously.

The Who and Our Poets

The lights went down and the crowd began to scream. Several shadowy figures walked across the darkened stage. The lights flashed on with the sound of a screaming guitar and everyone could see Pete Townshend as he did his famous windmill strum across his red Stratocaster.

String Theory

I sat around a table with about a dozen international people ranging from their late teens to their early thirties. I was the only American and I was having dinner with some new found friends in the south of France. We took turns going around the table briefly describing the lives that we had left behind in our own countries and that what was waiting for us upon our return.

The Hitchhiker

“Ah man. Thanks so much for picking me up. I’m exhausted.”

Entering the Coliseum

I woke up early to watch the sun rise over the Mediterranean. The sea was grey and the sunlight didn’t reflect off the waters still churning from the storm that passed through the night. There were two groups of people that stayed in hostels like the one I was in.

Faith in a Foreign Land

It was cold. Much colder than I’d thought it would be. I was only wearing a t-shirt and zip-up sweatshirt.

A Night With Nanny

I just left my grandmother’s hospital room for the last time. At around 5:40pm, Nanny took her last breath in this world and her next breath was in the presence of Jesus and her two daughters that went on before her. Angels on the Subway

7:18am the subway station was crowded with people ready to make their morning commute to their DC area jobs. The lawyers and politicians and schoolteachers and businessmen had been reduced to the status of herded cattle as they pushed and shoved their way past one another on the congested platform.

Fiery Perspective

I sat alone in my car with all of my belongings in it over looking Percy Priest lake and I wept. The moonlight bounced off the water and distorted in my tear filled eyes. I was 18 years old and my family had fallen apart. My parents had separated and I was living part time on my brother’s couch and part time in my car because I didn’t know where else to turn. The flames of my despair were consuming me. I felt helpless and utterly alone as I sat through the night asking God where he was. I had the perfect family growing up and it seemed as though over night, it was shattered.

There Is Only Breath

There is only God – the energy in everything. There is only Consciousness; you wake in the morning and see the world alive again. The portal is the breath. You breathe in light and it lives, you sense it in all its fire, then you exhale and die, and there is no-thing. You are no-thing, no senses, and at the bottom of the breath, when it is held, is the Void.

The World Is Thought – Train Your Mind

The World is your Thought. Life is the dream, and with your thoughts you create the world. Train the Mind and then the brain, through habit, to see and create the world this way or that. Repeated action, sensation or thought will create a habitual neural brain pattern, and the brain will eventually more easily recognize that particular conscious pattern Like fielding a thousand ground ball, or playing scales until the patterns sing of your nature.
