Faith That Moves Mountains

In times of stress or problems, sometimes we make decisions that end up destroying our preferred dream or desire. Let a friend of mine give you the tips to prevent this bad end.

That Dreadful Phrase “Culturally Conditioned” Is Used More And More To Excuse Inexcusable Behaviour

It is now a few years ago since I visited Izmir in western Turkey. It is the ancient Smyrna and the second of these seven letters to seven churches is addressed to the church in Smyrna. As we read these letters of Jesus to the seven churches it is good to ask, “What kind of church are we?” In the light of these churches and in the light of what Jesus says to these churches, what kind of church are we? Today, it is one of the easiest things to come to Worship, and it is one of the easiest things not to come to Worship. In this country, it is one of the easiest things in our western world, just to decide not to bother going to worship, to lie in bed, or to go and do something else. In Smyrna, there was no real choice. If you were a Christian, then you acted and behaved as though you were a Christian.

Some Shy Away From Mentioning Persecution, But Just As Jesus Was Marked, We Might Be Marked Too

How was the impression ever given that going to church was for the goody-goody people, and the nice respectable people? In Smyrna, there was no real choice regarding whether or not you attended worship services. If you were a Christian, then you acted and behaved as though you were a Christian. Smyrna was a suffering Church where there was real persecution. You can read the letter from the risen and living and glorified Lord Jesus Christ in the book of Revelation Chapter 2. Study it carefully. It is a powerfully challenging word direct from the throne room of heaven. In Smyrna, they had already suffered financial poverty. For various reasons they were suffering serious poverty. Why was that? The citizens of Smyrna were not allowed to trade with Christians. Many had lost all their money.

The Deepest Resentment Can Come From People Who Are So Religious That They Are Blind To Christ!

He did not give them a lesson in prosperity teaching, saying that if you have faith you should be materially rich! It was not easy to be a Christian in Smyrna. Sometimes people who are nearest the truth, but still holding back and resisting and not wanting to accept Jesus and His Word and His ways, sometimes they can be the most dangerous. Never hold back. Yield unconditionally to Christ. That will prevent us from falling into the trap of hindering or criticising the work of Christ. If love is mentioned in the first letter, then suffering is mentioned in the second. Suffering is almost seen as a natural consequence of love. If our love is real and genuine, we will suffer as a result of it, just as Jesus Christ did.
