This world reminds us more and more that it does not love us; continually we are told again and again, by our experience and observation, that this is a lonely world – certainly without the intimacy of loved ones. And because we are both God’s-created and sinners, bearing the mark of Adam and Eve, we desire to be loved – we are empty without it.

When a problem arises, we tend to look for an immediate solution. In many cases, spells can achieve that. But it all depends on the difficulty of their task.

The 2012 Schtick: You’d have to be living under a rock to have not got a whiff of the 2012 speculation. In a nutshell, its all sorts of theories that propose that this year (and/or the years leading up to and following it) are special. The depth and breadth of that specialness is what varies. Some think our world is going to be obliterated. Others think we are going through a dimensional shift (3D, 4D, 5D… which we may or may not recognize when it happens… or its going to happen to some but not others). Others think it’s all a bunch of bogus hogwash.

What’s in a kiss and why shouldn’t Catholic couples engage in kissing? Kissing has more peril than you can imagine. By kissing, I’m not referring to a peck on the cheek or even on the lips. I’m referring to open-mouth or French kissing. In the world, we live in, dating has taken on a whole different meaning. Dating is has become nothing more than going out a couple of times and then sleeping together. Even worse, dating is already becoming synonymous with “hooking up”, that phenomenon of sleeping together with no commitment whatsoever from either party. Sadly, Christians have also become accepting or resigned to the dating myth, believing that there is no other way of dating.

Practice all you like, stand on your head for 2 hours a day, do all sorts of austerities, none will bring you to truth, but they will give you the mental strength required to attain the knowledge of truth. Know this difference. Zen teaching is the same, as are many others. In Zen practice we follow the breath, just follow. There are other practices, but this is the main one, it is also the practice the Buddha used to attain his great liberation, enlightenment.

In a hierarchy of needs, significance features at the higher end. If we’re starving hungry we don’t get to feel insignificant so much. Yet, many people reading this will have those lower order needs met. Therefore, significance can be a real issue…It’s easy to be duped into feeling unimportant.

Few days ago I was going through a video on YouTube in which Harsha Bhogle philosophically went on to describe how talent is one of the most ‘useless’ of all things to possess at higher echelons of corporate. He substantiated his enlightening disclosure by drawing comparisons between Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, two childhood pals who strived to make it big in cricket, a sport Bhogle is paid to talk about. While the latter, although much talked of his ethereal hard-hitting skills, vanished from the stage after a series of ephemeral and intermittent success, the former attained the status of God in the sport considered as a religion in a country of a billion people.

Time! It intrigues us! It fascinates us! A realistic look at time from a different perspective.

Spectacular sights! Stunning smells! Startling sounds! Tantalizing tastes! Tender touches! The writings of the Apostle Paul contain all of these things-the sensory experiences of his world-in his writings. Modern readers often miss these things because they are unaware of the cultural or theological backdrop to what Paul is saying. One of the places where these things are present is II Corinthians 2:14-17.
