Jesus is heard to repeat himself many times as we read the gospel accounts, and we’re certainly given the impression that the disciples are a bit thick. There is no real difference between them and us in all reality – we’re all a bit slow on the uptake with God.

Why should a Christian pray? How often should I pray? These questions and many more are constantly heard from people. Some people wonder if there is really any need to pray. This article is to emphasize the importance of praying to a Believer and is listed in no particular order.

Isaiah talks a lot about peace; a general word search reveals it’s mentioned twenty-five times in the Today’s New International Version. But of those passages this is the one that attracts the eye of the one searching for a way to peace.

C.H. Spurgeon said of this psalm: “Comparing all the Psalms to gems, we should liken this to a pearl: how beautifully it will adorn the neck of patience!” Just getting even the tiniest heart-glimpse taste and this psalm is going to chill us wonderfully well.

The invocation is to live for this Jesus – the One who died for us and our sin. And yet many will reasonably ask, “What on earth does that mean?”

Everywhere you turn there are books, movies and television shows about vampires, werewolves, witches and warlocks. Many people enjoy reading and watching the drama inherent in these topics. Few believe these are based upon truth. In the same way, few people believe there is such a thing as black magic and curses.

God is as much at home in the darkness as God is owner and home of the Light. If this were not so, how could God be omnipresent; everywhere at the same time? The person in their unparalleled loss can know that God is there, right there in their darkness, with them.

The beauty of the first chapter of the Gospel of John is that it reminds us that all that we are comes from and through God. This means that just by existing, we are already glorifying the name of our maker. It also means that it is impossible to undo God, to remove Him from our lives. We can try and somehow rationalise Him out, as some people do, but this is only a mental trick and not real. If we are all just pieces of God’s creation, it is impossible for us even to utter a thought that has not come from Him.

Around this table there are 13 men and very soon two are going to be dead. Do take time or make time to check this out. It is always important to check out the facts and to examine what is claimed to be true. Some of these men had been looking for honour and recognition and position and this has to be dealt with comprehensively. When someone lets you down in this way it is sore and wounding and hurtful. What Jesus is saying here was not for the immediate moment, but for the future. That can be the same with us at times. We hear a message, or read a passage in the Word of God, and it may not fit into our present situation, but one day the Holy Spirit will remind you of it. As we soak up God’s Word, a situation can suddenly arise, and God begins to apply a Word that was spoken weeks or months previously, as His living Word ministers to us in a very real and practical way.

Agnosticism is the belief that it is useless to either assert or deny the existence of God because God is unknowable. Agnosticism is almost the twin sibling of atheism. Agnosticism is almost similar in impact to atheism because by holding judgment on whether God exists or not, an agnostic paves the way, ultimately, for the denial of God or for behaving as if God does not exist at all.

The peace of God’s reign is tantamount to much blessing. We see here the reality that justice and righteousness are like brothers in arms, fighting this good fight back to back, producing a third, younger brother: peace.

Shaken awake from a terrible dream, we no longer feel comfortable gracing the perspiration-laden sheets of our bed. As we move slowly toward the toilet we can’t help but think, “Why such a nasty dream…” until we realise this weight that hangs over us is still there.
